Parras Middle School Test Help

Hey Parras Panthers Parents & Students!

Great academic skills are important to your child’s success at every grade level, and can have a dramatic impact on school performance. Study skills are very important to have, but what about attaining good test taking skills? I believe that preparing for a test starts long before the actual test takes place. In order to do well on any given test, you should listen to the teacher, complete all homework and reading assignments (which can be basically practice work for your test), and ask questions. You should also study regularly to be familiar with the information that is being tested. Ask yourself the following questions to assess your test taking ability. Give yourself one point for every time you answer “yes”.

When I take a test, I Yes No
survey the entire test and read all directions before I begin working.
plan my time.
do the easiest questions first.
complete the harder questions next.
know that most statements which use “always” or “never” are generally false on true & false questions.
use the process of elimination for multiple choice.
cross off answers as I use them in matching tests.
plan my essays carefully. I do the easiest first, jot down important facts before writing, answer the question that was asked, and begin my answer by restating the question.
work at a steady pace.
check it over before I hand it to the teacher.

HSPT: High School Placement Test

The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is used by private high schools to screen and classify students for admission. Doing well on the HSPT is crucial to being accepted into the private school of your choice. The competitive nature of admission into private high schools makes being an outstanding applicant even more important, therefore, earning a high score on the HSPT will make an applicant stand out to admission committees.

This 2 ½ hour long test consists of verbal, quantitative, reading, mathematics, and language sections. The scores for each section range from 200-800. Although the test length and breadth of content can be overwhelming to students that have never taken it before, the Study Hut is here to help.
