Summer Adventures!

June 19th, 2014

Summer Adventures!

It’s finally summertime! That means lots of free time on your hands to explore and try new things. Luckily, we live in an area full of interesting things to do and see. If you are stuck, here are a few ideas to get you started.

  • Check out an aquarium! We have several great aquariums nearby showcasing both local and exotic marine life. Try the Roundhouse Aquarium on Manhattan Beach Pier, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, the Santa Monica Pier aquarium or the Aquarium of the Pacific. All have great informative exhibits and touch tanks to get up close and personal with the animals.
  • The Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits. Ever wonder what lived in Southern California before people? Find out at the Page Museum! They have a great collection of prehistoric skeletons, from giant sloths to direwolves to mammoths. There is even a live excavation site outside as well as a real bubbling tar pit.
  • See a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. This beautiful outdoor auditorium has a great program of both classical and modern music performances throughout the summer, often with famous musicians. There are even sing alongs! Pack up picnic and enjoy the weather while listening to great music.
  • Get outside! We live in a beautiful area with virtually perfect weather, along with miles and miles of beaches. Learn to stand up paddleboard, or kayak or bodysurf. There are beautiful hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains, and tidepools galore in Abalone Cove. Pick a new trail and see what you find!
  • Learn a new sport! If you are in the off season for school sports, why not pick up a new one? Ultimate Frisbee is a classic, or you could pick up an outside the box option like quidditch or beach tennis. Even better, make up your own!

Study Hut Bonding Nights

June 14th, 2013

The Study Hut is having a bonding night tonight and we can’t wait! We have decided to take a trip to Hollywood together so we can hang out and relax outside of work!

Our tutors always plan fun days and events for the rest of our tutors to participate in! On Thursdays, we always enjoy going to Trivia Night on Thursdays at Hennesseys in Manhattan Beach to have dinner and test our knowledge!!

Tonight we will be caravaning to Hollywood to hang out on the town and have a lot of fun!!

On June 20th, we will be having our end of the year party since school is out and summer is upon us! We want to celebrate each other’s achievements and have a celebration with all our offices for the end of a great year!!

For our end of the year party, we are going to put on our own mini Scholar Quiz – and see who comes out as the winner on top!

Many of our tutors are going on to grad school or going on to other jobs for the summer! We will be sad to see them go – but know that they will do great in the future!

Many other fun events that we have done this semester include:

Rock climbing, camping, road tripping, trivia nights, barbeques, kick backs, fun dinners or lunches, trips to Hollywood, Salsa Dancing, Scuba Diving and many more!

We not only work together but we all friends outside of work as well!! Even though some of us live farther than others, we try our best to get together and hang out outside of work!

So for the end of the year.. for those leaving (tutors and students going off to college): Goodbye and goodluck! We will miss you! Stay in touch and come back in visit! Don’t be strangers!

Hollywood’s Magic Castle!!!

April 12th, 2013

This Sunday Hut 1 is going on a trip to the Magic Castle!!  The Magic Castle is the showplace for some of the greatest magicians from around the globe. We also take great pride in showcasing the magnificent building that houses the Magic Castle. Built in 1908, this storied mansion has watched Hollywood grow and change for over 100 years while never losing its original charm.

The Magic Castle is the private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts, Inc, a very special organization devoted to the advancement of the ancient art of magic. The purpose of The Academy is to encourage and promote public interest in the art of magic with particular emphasis on preserving its history as an art form, entertainment medium, and hobby. Beginning with a charter membership of 150, the Academy has grown into a world-renowned fraternal organization with a membership of nearly 5,000.

Dinner is served at the Magic Castle in an atmosphere of Victorian elegance. Entreés range from simple but elegant pastas to lobster and Filet Mignon. The Castle’s menu also includes excellent seafood and vegetarian fare. Now enjoy fantastic food and magic with your family! The Castle is open Sat. and Sun. for brunch and offers three performances, Palace, Parlor, and Close-up. Invited guests welcome!

If you’re a magician, you just like magic or you would like to be able to entertain guests at a very exclusive private club in Hollywood, The Academy of Magical Arts has a membership category just for you!
If you have received a guest card from a member, you can find lots of information to help plan your visit, including the dress code.
The Academy of Magical Arts offers a basic magic class for adult beginners. This class can provide you with the skills you need to develop your own magical routines and prepare for a successful AMA Magician membership audition.
