Newport Beach: Prepare for the ACT

January 24th, 2016

We all know senior year can be stressful with college applications, essays, sports, activities, and a full class load.  At Study Hut Newport Beach we know that the best way to take some of the stress off is to start early.  Why wait until senior year to prepare for the ACT?

Prepare for the ACT

The best time to study for any test is when you have ample time and minimal stress.  Seniors at Corona Del Mar and Newport Harbor have a ton on their plates!  Between school, college applications, sports, and other extracurriculars it can be hard to find time to study and prepare.  This is why starting and finishing your training as a junior comes in handy.  You have a little less on your plate and little more room to focus to prepare for the ACT.

We know what it takes to get score high and get into your dream school.  We recommend starting your training as a junior to make your senior year as smooth as possible.  Why not finish junior year with a top ACT score?

We recommend to all of our Corona Del Mar and Newport Harbor students to start early.  It is so important to give yourself ample time and preparation before any test, and the ACT is no different.  We at Study Hut Newport are experienced and prepared to give students the most up to date and personalized instruction possible.

By working individually with one of our professional tutors, students are able to improve their weaknesses and capitalize on their strengths.  Our tutors are experts when it comes to strategy and content and know how to help students prepare for the ACT.  At Study Hut Newport, we know what it takes to get your desired score and to get into your dream school.

Our tutors are ready to help you achieve your goals as you start the new semester.  Now that finals are winding down, there is no better time to start your training.  Call us to schedule a free diagnostic test and counseling session today.  We want to get your started on the journey to prepare for the ACT and then to the college of your choice.

ACT Test Dates

Newport ACT Tutoring: Game Day

October 28th, 2015

Many of our students from Newport Harbor High School and Corona del Mar High School (especially seniors planning to take the ACT for the final time), have been cramming as much ACT tutoring as possible in this week. While some colleges will accept later test dates, others look at the official October 24th ACT as the final opportunity for serious applicants to show the improvement they have earned (hopefully!) over the past few months of hard work. A few of our students have come in every night since Sunday to take a few last practice sections and make sure that they have their timing down and their strategies set. While this can certainly be a week of anxiety for some students, here at Study Hut we have been training and practicing the same approach over and over again, so our students are typically calm and well prepared for the big day. The mood here at our Newport Beach Study Hut has been rather tranquil given the circumstances.

Newport ACT tutoring

ACT students have been working throughout the summer and the fall with their ACT tutors at Study Hut to attack areas of weakness and to fill in content gaps. We know how to best assess and correct these areas of weakness because our advanced software provides superior analytics. We break down the data from students’ prior practice tests and from their previous official attempts from junior year, and then focus on the specific areas of improvement that the student needs to address. This method is far superior to the approach taken by many students when working alone, and it gives Study Hut students who embrace ACT tutoring a major advantage on “Game Day.” We think this is one of the primary reasons that our popularity has grown so much this year, and also a major driver for our spike in referrals. We are incredibly appreciative of the positive feedback that our ACT tutoring program has received, especially here in Newport Beach among Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar students.

Newport Beach ACT Tutoring

Newport Beach ACT tutoring is more popular than ever!

One thing that has surprised us tremendously here at Study Hut Tutoring over the past few months is the radical increase in demand for our ACT tutors.  Whereas interest in SAT tutoring has typically been double or even triple that of our ACT tutoring services, the ambiguity that the changes to the new SAT have carried with them has appeared to have steered many test-takers toward its fast-growing competitor: the ACT.

While students at Newport Harbor High School, Corona del Mar High School, Mater Dei, and Sage Hill, among others, are long-familiar with test preparation and training, the process of deciding between the two tests is changing and evolving quicker than school counselors and college search services are able to relay the important and relevant information.  The result is that many of our clients, both longstanding and new, seem to often be quite confused by the differences between the tests, as well as the process of determining which test is right for their student.

At Study Hut Tutoring, we strongly recommend that each student begin the process by taking a free, full-length practice test.   We offer real tests that were proctored in years prior so that your student can get a sense of exactly what kind of score to expect if he or she were to take the real ACT today.  With those results, we can then look at the student’s strengths and weaknesses, undergo some goal-setting, and make a plan of action for how to “fill in the holes” and improve strategy and content understanding.

If you have any questions whatsoever regarding which test would be a better for your son or daughter to focus on, please ask our ACT experts at Study Hut Tutoring.  Whether you are looking specifically for an ACT tutor, or rather are just seeking information and trying to get a good understanding of the process, we are here to help.  Email ACT@studyhut.com with any questions you may have.
