Five Ways to Help Your Middle Schooler Stay Sharp This Summer
Study Hut offers five targeted summer programs for grades 6–8—Cognitive Workshop: Reading & Writing, 1-on-1 Math Workshop, 1-on-1 8th to 9th Grade Transition Workshops, Accredited Courses for Advancement, and Private School Entrance Exam Prep—each designed to reinforce key academic skills, build study habits, and boost confidence before the next school year.
Reading & Writing
Cognitive Workshop
- 1-on-1 tailored reading/writing instruction
- Flexible scheduling: 2x/week [90 min] sessions recommended
- Packages: 18, 24, or 30 hours
- Skills: reading comprehension, retention, fluency, spelling, vocab, grammar, writing, effective note taking skills
- Summer Reading check-ins
- Beginning 5 paragraph essay writing (match up with our novels)
- Summer is the perfect time to work on these skills that students don’t have time for during the school year.
1-on-1 Math Workshop
- Tailored grade level math instruction
- Review previous difficult concepts while Building students’ foundation before next math class
- Pre & Post Assessment
- Flexible scheduling: 2x/week [1 hour] sessions recommended
- Packages: 12, 16, or 20 hours
- Rebuild foundation holes that weren’t properly addressed during the school year; summer is the perfect time to repair that foundation.
- Mock practice quizzes and Assessments to reinforce learning
1-on-1 8th to 9th Grade Transition Workshops
- Getting ready for high school!
- Planner, study skills, organization: how to study for each specific class
- Learn effective Note taking skills using Ted Talk videos
- Preview the books students will be using next year
- Learning to make your own practice quizzes & tests
- Creating study guides & finding websites for extra practice
- Learn to self advocate: Teaching students how to be active and responsible with emailing teachers
- Flexible scheduling: 2x/week [1 hour] sessions recommended
- Packages: 12, 16, or 20 hours
- Build confidence before High school
- Your one chance to prep your student for their new high school
Accredited Courses for Advancement
- In person courses
- Private 1-on-1 or small group courses go right on your high school transcript
- UC/WASC/NCAA Approved Courses
- 8th Graders take the following courses to advance: Spanish, Geometry, Biology, Honors Bio, World History, AP Human Geography, & AP Psychology
- Lighten the workload in the fall by taking summer classes
- Flexible scheduling
Private School Entrance Exams
- ISEE/HSPT/SSAT prep available
- Full length Pre assessments are taken to create a baseline of students’ strengths and weaknesses
- 1 on 1 tailored sessions [2 hour] sessions
- 18 hour, 24 hour, or 30 hour packages available
- Work on test taking strategies, time management, testing endurance
- Take 2 - 3 additional practice tests before the official test date
