Newport Math Tutor

In order to be a successful math student, it is important to keep track of assignments, test-dates, and study tasks.  If you find yourself struggling, you can ask yourself, ” have I been correcting my assignments either during class or at home?”  Next, ask yourself, “do I make flashcards for the problems that I miss, with the question on one side, and a detailed solution on the other?”  If the answer is no, it’s a good place to start.

However, nothing beats a Newport math tutor that can help you with your step-by-step problem solving process and keep you accountable every step of the way.  Someone that has tutored the students in your same class last year is going to know what comes next, and where students struggle.  Moreover, you’re going to get help with custom practice quizzes, future concepts, and you can even repair missing gaps from previous years’ math classes.

Fundamentals are a huge part of helping students.  Having a Newport math tutor by your side from an early age has its advantages.  We work with students of all ages.  We tailor to every student during our one hour customized lessons.  If you’re looking for a local place, with helpful and friendly staff, you’ve come to the right place.   Study Hut Tutoring is located on West Coast Hwy in Newport Beach.  Please fill out a contact form on this page and we will call you back to schedule you with a top-tier Newport math tutor here at the Hut.  We are a close-knit team and we love what we do.

Newport Harbor IB Program

Newport Harbor IB program

What is IB?

IB stands for International Baccalaureate which is a rigorous curriculum that is recognized by top universities worldwide. It covers a variety of subjects which are then tested through exams during eleventh and twelfth grades. Subjects are often integrated and the curriculum is discovery and investigative. IB is student oriented, interdisciplinary, and created with a global intent. While IB can be very difficult it can also create more international opportunities for Newport Harbor students. IB curriculum has a reputation at universities all over the world for its rigor and the type of students it produces. It is a globally accepted curriculum and students should heavily consider if planning on going to a university in another country.

What kind of commitment is IB?

International Baccalaureate is a two year commitment at Newport Harbor and students must fit the IB profile. IB is known for challenging students in reading, writing, and critical thinking.

What is the IB student profile?

Many Newport Harbor students fit the IB student profile. Students must be organized, motivated, have upstanding character, and be proficient in reading, writing, and critical thinking. Time management is key for IB Newport Harbor students.

Classes often have heavy workloads and require students to prioritize and manage their time wisely. IB can be very difficult, students need to be motivated in order to succeed and place a high priority on their education. Much of the IB curriculum is based in investigative and discovery learning. IB students typically have global interests.

How do I get started?

Students can apply to the Newport Harbor IB Program online here.

What if I need help with my IB classes?

Study Hut Newport Beach is here to help! We can help with content and time management. We want to help alleviate some of the stress that comes with the Newport Harbor IB Program and look forward to helping students excel.

Second Annual Festival of Learning

Study Hut Tutoring is proud to endorse and support the Newport-Mesa Unified School District’s Second Annual Festival of Learning.  It is right around the corner: Thursday, February 22, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Estancia High School.  The Festival will provide Newport-Mesa families and community members with an opportunity to learn more about many of the incredible specialty programs provided by the district.  Among other programs to be highlighted, the Signature Academies and bi-literacy programs are sure to stand out as those that draw featured interest.  The Signature Academies include programs centered on key industry leading careers and areas of study, including Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).  Study Hut Tutoring encourages and supports these programs and their goals, specifically by working with our current students on projects, assignments, and ideas related to these classes and areas of study.

Flier for Festival

Various Signature Academy programs will take receive spotlight focus during presentations from principals, teachers, and students from Newport Harbor High School, Ensign Middle School, Corona del Mar High School, and Estancia High School, among others.  Programs to be featured include engineering, medical, performing arts, multimedia, construction technology, the Mandarin and Spanish immersion programs, and more, according to the flier.  There will also be hands-on art and technology demonstrations, musical performances, and food for purchase from the Newport Harbor High School Culinary Team.  Study Hut and our team of tutors are particularly excited for this event since it draws in many of the district’s top students.  It is always refreshing to work with and discuss ideas with the area’s best and brightest.  Our math tutors find it extremely refreshing to work with go-getters who are looking to push the limits of their understanding, rather than just trying to get by.  At Study Hut Tutoring, we push our pupils to pursue concepts and content areas that interest them most, as we all know the motivating power than true interest and passion can provide.  Whether it is through the lens of math tutoring, English tutoring, Spanish tutoring, or other subject tutoring in Newport Beach and the surrounding areas, our tutors love students who are as fired up as we are about these topics.

Please check out the following district link for more information.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Newport Beach College Night

October 8th, 2014

As the summer turns in to fall and the school year takes hold, high school students all over the world become immersed in the complex ritual that is the college application. This task may seem like an unbearably daunting one and the defining moment for the rest of your life (it certainly did for me). However, like the beginning of any grand odyssey it begins with just a few, simple steps. The first of these is learning what your options are. In other words, what colleges are out there and what do they have to offer?

The best place to find this out is from someone who knows about the college or university firsthand. Luckily for those in the Newport-Mesa area, over 200 colleges are sending representatives to the College Fair at the OC Fairgrounds Building 10 tonight, Wednesday, October 8th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.  More College Fair info

Meeting with a representative to find out more about a college is a great way to narrow down your options and figure out which campuses are worth visiting in person.  This college fair is also the perfect opportunity to find out about all of the different programs that a school offers. While you might have your heart set on a particular major or career now, it never hurts to make sure that a potential alma mater also has other programs that you are interested in.  After all, if you are anything like me you want to not only get a good academic education but also meet interesting people along the way.

If you are still feeling overwhelmed about the application process, there is no need to fear. Here at Study Hut we have years of experience with college applications and can help you break down your odyssey in to a few, simple steps. Great Finals Tutor Newport Beach

May 21st, 2012

As the year is winding down for elementary, middle, and high school students alike, it may not be the time to give up quite yet. The dreaded end of year tradition—finals—is just around the corner. With about four weeks left to study, now is the best time to start thinking about finals, especially with a tough curriculum, like Newport Harbor High School. Why spend the night before your test cramming a semester’s worth of information into your head? Why spend day after day last-minute-studying and not getting enough sleep?

Do your future self a favor—DON’T procrastinate. Start working on study tools now. Study Hut is a great place to start. Make a phone call and get to work with a cool Newport Beach tutor; someone who is fresh out of college–someone is already prepping with other students from Newport Beach. Start making those flashcards and study guides. A Study Hut tutor in Newport Beach can make sure you are focusing on the exact material that will be on your test. When it comes time to push yourself into full final-mode, all you’ll have to do is whip out those pre-made flashcards and study guides and get going. Sounds pretty stress-free compared to the coffee-drinking and study-snacking that would occur after four weeks of procrastination.

Start out by outlining a general study plan for each subject. Will you make a study guide or look over old tests for your history final? Will you memorize math formulas from practice problems or flashcards? Your local Newport Beach Study Hut tutor can help you get this process started. Once you have created an active study plan, you will only have to do a little bit of work each day to prepare.

Study now, so you can stress less and sleep more later.
