A blog about our fabulous Manhattan Beach Office Manager Samantha

July 26th, 2013

Today we say goodbye to our Manhattan

Beach Office Manager

Samantha after 5 years of working here at the Study Hut.

Samantha is a huge part of the Study Hut Business and we will miss

her. Samantha will be attending Grad School in Nashville for 2 years.

Samatha has been a huge part of not only the Study Hut but the Study

Hut Foundation as well to help it get

up and running.

Her 5 most memorable moments at the Study Hut have been:

1. Both the trips to Catalina and the Green River in Utah

2. Building her lifeguard tower that has a home at the MB Study Hut

3. Attending events including the Christmas Parties.

4. All of Rob’s barbeques

5. Enjoying the fun times she had tutoring students here at the Study

Hut – especially her long time standing appointments with Ryan L.

We will miss you! Don’t be a stranger! We know you will do great

things in the future and you will always be a huge part of the Study

Hut Family!

Scholar Quiz 2013!! June 2nd @ the Manhattan Beach Country Club!

June 4th, 2013

Scholar Quiz 2013 – Blog part 1

We had a great turnout at our first ever Study Hut Foundation Parent/Teacher Scholar Quiz on Sunday June 2nd at the Manhattan Beach Country Club!

We had 16 teams participate at our event, and the event lasted from 4pm until 8pm. The winning team’s name was WB and the Funky 3.

The teams were parents and teachers from all the surrounding areas including Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, and Hermosa Beach. Many teachers from the schools participated including: Palos Verdes, West High School, Manhattan Beach Middle School, and Mira Costa High School.

The questions that were asked ranged from all different subjects, including English, History, Geography, Pop Culture, Math and many more!

We had a silent auction as well which included restaurant certificates, jewelry, signed memorabilia from the Kings Hockey Team, cupcakes from Susie Cakes, and many more.

Many local merchants donated silent auction iteams, including but not limited to wine, plants, hair appointments, free tutoring sessions, and music lessons.

We also had raffle tickets that we sold ($5 for 1 or $20 for 5 tickets). The people who won, received a trip for 2 nights (air fare not included) – and they can pick from over 50 different destinations.

We served Hors d’œuvres while the event was going on including but not limited too: Quiche and dumplings – and we also had a cash bar outside that overlooked the tennis courts.

If you would like to donate to the Study Hut Foundation, you can log on to our website at StudyHutFoundation.org and click “Donate”

As of right now we have 13 students that attend the Study Hut Foundation and next year we are hoping to bump it up to 50 students. We are seeing improvements already in their grades and have changed the way that the students view going to school.

Thanks to all the teams that participated! Congrats to the winners! Thanks again to everyone that came out and supported our event! We really appreciate it!

Stay tuned for Part 2 and more pictures in the next blog!

STUDY HUT FOUNDATION CPK FUNDRAISER

May 23rd, 2013

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! All day today our Study Hut Foundation will be holding a fundraiser a CPK (California Pizza Kitchen) in Manhattan Beach in the Manhattan Beach Village Mall Parking – to raise money for our Study Hut Foundation! If you bring in a flier, 20% of each receipt goes to the Study Hut Foundation!

Nestled on a quiet corner in Lomita, directly across the street from the Lomita Public Library, the Study Hut Foundation is perfectly located to conveniently serve the students of Nathaniel Narbonne High School. The Foundation offers the same tutoring and college prep services that the Study Hut offers at its for-profit locations, but it offers them free of charge to the students who qualify to receive a tutoring scholarship.  The Study Hut Foundation offers a bright and comfortable spot for students to complete homework, study for exams, and prepare for college. Our young, experienced tutors offer personalized tutoring on all subjects in the elementary through high school curriculum.  They are smart, fun, and dedicated to helping students reach their academic potential.

Hours:
Monday – Friday
3PM – 8PM

The Study Hut Foundation aims to provide the same tutoring and test-prep services, which our students in Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Newport Beach, and El Segundo have become accustomed to, free of cost to students who could otherwise not afford them.

Afford hard working, motivated students the opportunity to reach their highest academic potential and achieve their goal of attending college.

Improve our community by supporting the good work of committed students.

How Funding Will Be Used:
The goal of the Study Hut Foundation is to support the education of students, in Lomita and neighboring communities, who could not otherwise afford to receive tutoring. As such, the primary function of the funding that the Study Hut Foundation receives will be used to fund scholarships for students who meet Study Hut Foundation qualifications. The scholarships offset the costs of tutoring, including the tutor’s time and the materials used during the session.

Study Hut Foundation getting going

November 6th, 2012

Study Hut Tutoring and our entire team are ecstatic to announce that the Study Hut Foundation has officially opened its first office. For those of you unfamiliar with the Study Hut Foundation, it is the non-profit arm of Study Hut. Our mission is simple: to provide additional educational opportunities to underprivileged students.

We signed the lease on Friday, and we will begin getting the office ready for studying and tutoring by January 1st. This process will include everything from buying tables and chairs, to sharpening pencils and filling the candy bins….hehe….The office is located in Lomita (very close to Harbor City as well) and is located on Narbonne Avenue, right across from the public library. We will be serving students from many neighboring cities, but the convenience factor is definitely there for Narbonne High School students, so we will be working closely with counselors, teachers, and administrators. We are seeking students who need the help most, and also those who are most eager to use the assistance in a positive way.

The first goal of the Study Hut Foundation is to bring some of the same college preparatory services that we provide our current Study Hut students to less fortunate students in the local area. This will benefit the entire community, and will provide additional opportunity to local students who show the potential and desire to achieve. We will provide scholarships for subject tutoring in math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, precalc, etc.), science (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.), English, writing, reading comprehension, history (European history and U.S. history), government, economics, psychology, Spanish, French, and more. Additionally, we will offer SAT prep, ACT prep, and other test prep services, all free of cost.

Our team will consist of current tutors, as well as volunteers from local high schools and universities. We will specialize by subject, and we aim to provide the best service possible at the best possible price (free)!
For those of you interested, we will be adding a page for the Study Hut Foundation to our website shortly, and there will also be opportunities for donations and support in the near future. Stay tuned!

Time for our team to take off the party hats and roll up their sleeves. The Foundation is here!
