Study Hut Tutoring offers free practice SAT and ACT exams. It is important to know that tackling the SAT or ACT can be a daunting challenge for many students. Performing to the best of one’s availability is vital in order to strive for acceptance to increasingly competitive colleges and universities. Students are often unaware of how to effectively prepare for the SAT or ACT. Rest assured, Study Hut Tutoring in El Segundo is here to offer guidance and support through tailored test prep tutoring and free SAT and ACT practice tests.

In order to provide our students with specialized, tailored test ACT and SAT tutoring sessions, we encourage our students to complete a full length, free SAT or ACT practice test. We then critically analyze the results and prepare a tutoring plan tailored to our students, emphasizing focus on areas of potential improvement. As we move through scheduled tutoring sessions, students will return to take additional free SAT or ACT practice tests, which allows us to check our progress in real time and shift focus when the need is indicated by performance.

In addition to reviewing specific concepts and learning new strategies and test taking techniques, exercising to build test taking endurance is crucial. The SAT and ACT are each about four hours long. No matter how you cut it, four hours is a long time to maintain focus, flex cognitive abilities, and perform at a consistently high level. By completing free SAT or ACT practice tests, Study Hut students develop their ability to persevere through mental fatigue. Without a simulated experience made possible by full length practice tests, improving endurance is difficult, and Study Hut is pleased to offer this service to our students.

When is the right time to start thinking about college? Long before you apply, that’s for sure! Your freshman and sophomore years of high school should focus on acclimating to the higher level of thinking expected of you at the high school level, but once you get to junior year, you should have this down. It’s then that you should start preparing for standardized testing like the ACT. Diagnostic exams are given every Saturday morning from 8 am to noon, so there are plenty of opportunities to test alongside like-minded students. After the test is scored, you will receive a result sheet and attend a counseling session that breaks down each section of the test to pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses. These two initial steps will give you a good foundation to start your Palos Verdes ACT tutoring if that is what’s right for you. From there, you will be paired with one of our trained ACT tutors for one-on-one tutoring, focusing on making those weaknesses strengths. Good at English, but struggle with Math and Science? So what’s the first step in the Timeline for ACT or SAT Prep?

At the Study Hut, the first step in test prep is always to take a free, full length practice test. These are generally offered every other Saturday throughout the year, and take about 4 hours. After the student takes the practice test, we will grade and evaluate the results and then set up a free consultation with the student and their parents to go over the results and our evaluation.

How long should I prep?

From there, test prep is usually a 4-6 month process. Here are three general timelines we recommend. (Green=start test prep, Blue=take the test)

The key is to put in the time when you have the time.

If you play a sport, it’s best not to try to cram prep in during season (although increasingly, sports are a year round commitment, there is usually a ‘slower’ period in which test prep would fit best). If you carry a heavy workload during the year, summer would be a better time.

PV ACT Tutoring

The first step in preparing for PV ACT Tutoring is to take a free diagnostic test at Study Hut. They are offered every other Saturday from 8 AM – 12 PM. The diagnostic test is important because it establishes a baseline to compare improvement to as well as guides instruction in regards to which areas require more focus than others. Once a student’s initial diagnostic test is scored, the student and his or her parents will meet with a manager to review the test scores and decide the best approach to preparing for the test. Study Hut offers several PV ACT Tutoring packages, including a 24-hour package, a 32-hour package, and a 40-hour package.

All tutoring sessions are two hours long, as students need to build stamina for the four-hour test. During a tutoring session, tutors review the assigned lessons as well as test-taking strategies with the student and complete some practice exercises with them. Students will also be assigned a couple hours of homework each week that they complete in their books and input on Study Hut’s PV ACT Tutoring website. When inputting homework, students are immediately notified of any incorrect answers for which they are required to watch a video solution. Should further questions arise, students will return to the next tutoring session with a list of things to ask or discuss with their tutor.

In order to monitor progress and best train for the test, it is crucial that students take a diagnostic test (a full length actual ACT test!), which are always free, every two weeks. After each practice test, a chunk of the following tutoring session is spent reviewing that test. This is usually what students say is most helpful in preparing for the test.
