Local El Segundo Tutoring: (310) 546- 2408

The kids that come to Study Hut Tutoring in Manhattan Beach, CA agree that local, recent college grads at Study Hut are the best El Segundo tutor they’ve come to know, learn from and love.  El Segundo Tutoring makes sense in Manhattan Beach because Study Hut offers a great location near the northern edge of Manhattan Beach, and the southern end of El Segundo.

Despite the smaller school district, El Segundo education is on the rise.  Students who attend El Segundo Middle School and El Segundo High School are smashing test scores and earning top grades- according to the results of Study Hut goers from El Segundo.

If your not an El Segundo Eagle quite yet, come to the Hut to work on learning how to write a structured essay.  The experienced tutors at Study Hut know the El Segundo curriculum, so they know how to gear you up, and get you going in the right direction.  The Study Hut Team is dynamic; all of the experts are in one location to help.

El Segundo Tutor

May 21st, 2008

–El Segundo Schools On the Rise!–

El Segundo schools are gaining prominence in the South Bay and and have seen a considerable amount of recent recognition, which is awesome! Both sports and academics are on the rise (Congratulations El Segundo Women’s Water Polo!) Study Hut tutors are happy to provide a place for El Segundo students to continue on the road of academic success and overall achievement. We already have a few El Segundo students in the Hut and are happy to see more El Segundo faces.

Our relaxed environment mixed with a heavy dose of scholastic energy and enthusiasm is working wonders for our Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach students and we are happy to extend our efforts and energy over to our El Segundo neighbors! Our tutors use their depth of knowledge of the area to reach the needs of each student at the Study Hut…. but never without some fun, of course!

If you are looking for help in that one troubling subject (Boo, Geometry), or need of an overall academic boost, we have Spanish Tutors, Math Tutors, Chemistry tutors, History Tutors, English Tutors (and more!) to provide a new outlook, and help keep our students on the right track. No need to feel like you are barely keeping your head above water in those pesky subjects when you can dominate them!

If you are an El Segundo student or parent looking for an El Segundo tutor, call the Hut or email Rob or Sean Patrick for more information. We would love to see you achieve the success you are looking for.

Where’s the Cure for Senioritis?

May 21st, 2008

It’s hard to stay motivated at the end of the year. This, we know. It’s unfortunate that crunch time arrives just as we can see summer time around the corner. This is especially true for those seniors out there! Ok, it doesn’t matter if you’re a senior; senioritis may be effecting you as well. It seems as if there is so much to remember and very little time to remember it. For some of you, it may feel as if your classes are caving in on you; subjects that were always difficult are now busting your butt! It can be really overwhelming. Read the rest of this entry »

A Great Redondo Beach Tutor

April 17th, 2008

(310) 540-5888 is the phone number for Study Hut Tutoring and one Redondo Beach tutor, Tamer Makeen. Tamer runs Study Hut Tutoring in South Redondo Beach. Located conveniently at 210 Avenue I, Tamer is booking tutoring appointments at an incredible rate. Redondo Beach High School, Palos Verdes High School, Peninsula High School, Rolling Hills Preparatory and Chadwick students find the instruction at the Hut extremely helpful.

When we asked 9th grader Janelle Darman about the Study Hut in Redondo Beach she was eager to exclaim, “I’m excited to learn with Tamer and the Hut team at least twice a week. His Hut is the coolest place I’ve been to, and my two worst grades in math and biology are now my two best grades thanks to all the affordable one-on-one help I receive each hour.” Read the rest of this entry »

“When are we ever going to use this in real life?”

February 25th, 2008

I hear this question from students often, especially when they are doing a long, boring homework assignment.

My honest answer is “probably never”.

Teachers do assign homework for a reason though. It is to emphasize a concept that was taught in class. It is to give students a chance to practice before a test. It is to make sure students understand the material, and alerts teachers to whether or not a student is doing well with certain subject matter.

Homework is also easy points. You get an assignment. You have unlimited time and resources (including the study hut) to finish it. You turn it in. 100%. The alternative: you don’t do your homework and your grade in the class can drop a letter grade, if not more.

The bottom line is that doing homework is crucial to doing well in a class. If a student does all their homework, they are guaranteed to understand the material better than if they are lazy and only do the in-class assignments. It is also a plus when it comes time to study for a test. Doing homework is like reviewing for a test so when it comes time for the next exam, the student will have a much easier time studying for that test and will do better on the exam, guaranteed!

So when students complain about their homework, I let them know that the more they complain, the more time they waste, the longer it will take them to get their homework done, and the less free time they will have. Doing your homework is like earning free points and I am always there to help them with their assignments.

Although students will probably never have to use matrices if they decide they want to become a lawyer and they really won’t have to know who fought in the battle of 1812 if they want to become a doctor, they will need to know these things for next week’s test.

Did You Write The Essay The Way I Told You To?

January 10th, 2008

I frequently get to read student’s essay assignments.

I’m an English major, that kind of thing is right up my alley. Sure, I can correct grammatical errors, format and punctuation, but that’s just little ticky-tack stuff. What it will inevitably come down to with Mr. Teacher is: did you write the essay the way I told you to?

It’s only too often that little Suzie and little Jimmy come in and say “my teacher told me to write an essay about the themes in “Lord of The Flies.” So far they’ve got a rough draft which is written on their general idea of what the essay is supposed to be. But when we ask “did your teacher give you instructions” they look around anxiously.

Study Hut tutors will help with three things. The first thing we will tell you to do would be to answer the prompt directly. Whether your South Bay tutor is helping you with the SAT test or an in class essay, answering the question is paramount.

The thesis should take care of this– it is your opinion stated as a fact. Work on this first, then let us check up on you…

SCHOOL’S BACK IN SESSION

August 28th, 2007

Some of you are already back…

Some of you are enjoying the last DAY of summer.

Either way, there is enjoyment still to be had. Going back to school seems like a bummer, but really, it’s mostly a good time.

The first week can be a bit of joke academically… It’s a great time to figure out your new surroundings and catch up with some of your school friends. You want to know where to chill for snack and lunch as well as figuring out the locker situation. For others its a clean slate or, more time to goof off publicly.

The second part is the shopping spree. It’s a spree simply because everything somehow becomes school related when you’re cruisin’ down the aisle at Staples, Office Depot, Costco or even the local Ralphs. I know that platinum blond wool rug at Costco won’t be needed in class, but I would sure find myself studying comfortably. Buying a million cush-grip pens and six folders with iTunes displays doesn’t always do the trick–many teachers will dish out their own shopping lists. Work diligently, because the real spree happens in college.

Welcome!
