Why is science tough?
Why do people struggle with it in school?
Science is definitely a subject where the old cliché of, “The more you put into it, the more you get out of it” applies. Human Anatomy and Physiology further exemplify this adage. It seems that many high school students have trouble putting “more” into academic subject, (especially a notoriously dry one that requires excessive memorization), usually due to typical and healthy teenage distractions such as sports, socializing, music, and various after school activities . This is where Study Hut Tutoring can helpfully intervene! Read the rest of this entry »
History is a demanding subject, particularly when it comes to AP European History. History in itself is basic memorization and correlations, but the key to succeeding in this class is good organizational skills. With the right study habits, any student can be guaranteed a passing AP score. Study Hut Tutoring has the ability to provide students with the necessary regimen that will lead to a three or above!
The first step is to read the entire chapter and outline it. The act of writing and reiterating the main points allows for better memorization. It is important for an outline to highlight key events and contain the important W’s (who, what, where, when, and why?). The outline should be followed up by a constructed time-line and flow chart that presents the main ideas of the chapter. This will provide the student with a big picture and will aid immensely in future studying for any class tests and the AP test itself. Read the rest of this entry »

So it has become apparent to us at the Study Hut that some Math students at Parras Middle School are getting started on graphing linear functions. Are slope, intercept, domain, and range not making a lot of sense at first? And what’s the deal with quadrants and coordinates?

Many students find pre-calculus to be one of the most difficult courses they take in high school. At the Study Hut we work with students to help them develop a more positive outlook on the subject. We find that the reason most students struggle with pre-calculus is because they are lacking knowledge of the more basic mathematical principles. We work to get the students up to speed with basics, such as the unit circle and trigonometric functions, so that they can become successful math students. Read the rest of this entry »
From grade school through high school there are those English teachers who assign their kids to write poems.
Students always dread this. This must be because when kids think of poetry, they think of rhyming. They think of all the rhyming poems they heard when they were little that seem so lame now that they’ve got cell phones. They’re busy texting their Bff Josh, amirite? Read the rest of this entry »

The question of “why should I get my child a tutor?” is classically covered with a packaged response that stresses the mood for individual attention and pressuring study skills. While these are true, the reality of tutoring actually goes much deeper than this. In today’s technological age, it is more important than ever to set aside some time each week to just focus on school work without being tempted to just surf the web. Tutoring at Study Hut offers tools and knowledge for students who are faced with tough classes. Read the rest of this entry »
